1,500 Distribution Transformers Supplied to Kenya
We have supplied 1,500 distribution transformers to Kenya, rated 200 to 1,000 kVA and built for 33/0.42 kV and 11/0.42 kV networks. The order covers two voltage ratios used on Kenya’s medium-voltage distribution system. This article summarizes the scope, explains why these ratings suit local networks, and answers common questions from buyers planning similar projects.
“1,500 units, two voltage ratios, one export market.”

Why 33 kV and 11 kV Ratings
Kenya’s distribution network runs mainly at 33 kV and 11 kV. A distribution transformer on these feeders steps medium voltage down to the low voltage used by homes, shops, schools and small businesses. A 0.42 kV no-load secondary allows for the voltage drop under load, so customers receive the standard 415/240 V supply. Ratings from 200 to 1,000 kVA cover most feeder points, from rural villages to busy commercial areas.
How the Units Were Inspected and Packed
Every transformer received 100% inspection of appearance and function before release from our factory in Hai’an, Jiangsu. The units were then packed for long-distance sea freight, loaded into shipping containers and secured for transit to Kenya.
